The Answer to Human Prayers
(Introduction to
The Promised God-Man Is Here)
What does it mean to say, "The Promised God-Man is here"?
Turn to the teachings of the principal religions—Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Jewish, Muslim—and you will find an ancient prophecy common to all: There is an All-Surpassing God-Man yet to come—a final Avatar, an ultimate Messiah, a consummate Prophet or Enlightened Sage, a Spiritual Deliverer who will appear in the "late-time", the "dark" epoch 1 when humanity is lost, apparently cut off from Wisdom, Truth, and God. Buddhists call that Expected One "Maitreya"; Hindus, the "Kalki Avatar"; Christians, the "second coming of Jesus"; Jews, the "Messiah"; Muslims, the "Mahdhi". In other words, the great religious traditions all promise a future Bringer of Salvation and Liberation, One Who will perfectly answer all human prayers.
The darkness of this time cannot be denied. Decade by decade, the atrocities of the twentieth century have escalated, with the ever more efficient mechanization of mass murder and the wanton destruction of nature. Today's news is a litany of personal and political violence, of uncontrolled epidemics and threatened extinctions. The globe is not merely warming—it is on fire with strife and suffering. If ever there was the need for the Supreme Avatar, the Living God Incarnate in human Form, that time is now.
Our confession to you, as the devotees of Avatar Adi Da Samraj, is that the One Prophesied has Come. The God-Man Promised for all humankind, and even for all beings, is here—in the Person of the Ruchira Avatar (the Divine Incarnation of "Brightness"), 2 Adi Da Samraj. 3
It makes no sense to merely tell you this, as if "the Promised God-Man is here" were a dogma to be believed. The Truth of this confession must be Revealed, made known directly to the heart—and that is the purpose of this book. You have in your hands the evidence of a living Revelation—full of confessions, by ordinary men and women, of how the Divine Reality and Truth that people call "God" has been shown to them in Person. You will read of the amazement and joy that accompanies such heart-recognition of Adi Da Samraj—and of the great devotional response and life-conversion that follow.
What is He like?
Avatar Adi Da Samraj is what has traditionally been called a "Crazy-Wise" Master. 4 In other words, He does not conform to the conventional image of a "holy man". As you will discover in this book, He is not an ascetic. He does not withdraw from human existence in the slightest. Rather, He has done His Spiritual Work and established a new and unique Spiritual way of life, the Way of Adidam, 5within the sphere of human impulses and desires—rather than calling people to effortfully "rise above" the realities of bodily life.
Avatar Adi Da Samraj Awakens His devotees by a Play of Love that stops the mind and Awakens the heart. This Play of Love is what Avatar Adi Da Samraj has been doing all His life. He was doing it with His parents even at an early age, as you will read in the first chapter. He has loved and suffered human beings to the very depths. And He is still doing so. He can never withdraw, no matter how great the struggle.
Great struggle is part of His Story. Why? Because the process required in order for human beings to be Saved, Awakened, and Set Free in Real God 6 is not magic. It is a great and passionate ordeal, and requires each one to go beyond everything that is about "self", or "ego". As this Story shows, to attract ordinary men and women into this profound process of going beyond "self" required everything of Adi Da Samraj—His Genius, Humor, and relentless Love, and also His Divine Powers, which go beyond any ordinary or extraordinary explanation.
There is tremendous emotion and passion in this Story, on the part of Avatar Adi Da Himself, and also expressed in the voices of His devotees. You cannot come face to Face, heart to Heart, with the One you recognize as the Living God and not be changed from the inside out. And so, to read the Story of Avatar Adi Da Samraj is an initiation into this sphere of intense feeling.
The import of this Story is that, through the Incarnation of Avatar Adi Da Samraj, the Very Divine is literally "Emerging" into this world—Spiritually Pervading the world, in a way that has never occurred before. In face-to-face dialogue with His devotees, Avatar Adi Da has occasionally spoken of how He was Moved to Incarnate, and the immensity of that Process:
AVATAR ADI DA SAMRAJ:
Thousands of years of Sacrifice, and Endeavor, and Purpose, and Spiritual Practice, and Realization, and Love, and Compassion were required for My bodily (human) Birth. Some day, you may understand My Birth. It was no casual gesture. And it could never have happened before now. Some day, you may understand that My human Lifetime is a unique moment in the history of humankind. Even in all these "eons of shaking', the Impulse of the Divine Person to Incarnate persisted, undaunted, and could not be destroyed or ruined. Real God is willing to Love you and all beings, and that Divine Purpose must be Fulfilled. That is My Unique Impulse. Here I Am, Incarnate, to Do That Work. A thousand years may pass before anyone understands anything about My Appearance here. So much suffering accompanies It, so much was required of Me to Submit to your company.
DEVOTEE: How was that Decision made?
AVATAR ADI DA SAMRAJ:
By Love. To Encompass the totality of conditional 7
existence, in Love—That is the Sign of My Appearance here. By Appearing
here bodily before You, I have Submitted to Love all and All, to be Compassionate
toward all and All, to Serve all and All. And, in My Embrace of all and
All, I have utterly Submitted to this mortal circumstance of sorrow and
death. Such Submission never destroyed Me. It cannot destroy Me, for the
One Who I Am can never be destroyed. But Love, the Impulse to Kiss
you—just to Kiss you, to not deny you—made Me a Body to Live with you.
Can't you see it in My Face?

May the extraordinary Story of Avatar Adi Da Samraj attract and open your heart. May it awaken in you a living certainty that the long-awaited Miracle, the Event of the ages, has occurred: The Promised God-Man is here.

1. "The 'late-time"' (or "the 'dark' epoch") is a phrase that Avatar Adi Da uses to describe the present era—in which doubt of God (and of anything at all beyond mortal existence) is more and more pervading the entire world, and the self-interest of the separate individual is regarded to be the ultimate principle of life. It is also a reference to the traditional Hindu idea of "yugas", or "epochs", the last of which is understood to be the most difficult and "dark". Many traditions share the idea that it is in such a time that the promised Deliverer will appear.
2. "Ruchira" is Sanskrit for "bright, radiant, effulgent". Thus, the Reference "Ruchira Avatar" indicates that Avatar Adi Da Samraj is the "Bright" (or Radiant) Descent of the Divine Reality Itself, Appearing in the world in physical Form.
3. Throughout this book, Avatar Adi Da Samraj is referred to with various Titles, including "Avatar" and "Samraj", and also "Beloved". "Samraj" is a Title that was offered to Him in 1996, and is an ancient word meaning "Universal Ruler"—not as any kind of political reference, but as a reference to His Divine Nature and His rulership in the hearts of His devotees. The full Spiritual meaning of "Samraj" in reference to Avatar Adi Da Samraj is: "The Divine Heart-Master, or The Spiritual, Transcendental, and Divine Lord, or Master-King, or Master-Ruler and Divine Liberator, Of The Heart, and Of every one, and Of everyone, and Of all, and Of All. "Adi Da"—the "First Giver", the "Giving Source"—is His principal Name, as He indicated on October 11, 1994.
4. The Masters in what Avatar Adi Da calls "the 'Crazy Wisdom' tradition" are Realizers that have been recognized traditionally (in any culture or time) to serve individuals through spontaneous Free action, blunt Wisdom, and liberating laughter, by shocking or humoring them into self-critical awareness of their egoity—which is a prerequisite for receiving the Realizer's Spiritual Transmission. Typically, such Realizers manifest "Crazy" activity only occasionally or temporarily—and never for its own sake, but only as "skillful means".
5. Avatar Adi Da Samraj spontaneously Gave the name "Adidam" in January 1996 as the primary Name for the Way He has Revealed and Given. This name is simply His own Principal Name ("Adi Da") with the addition of "m" at the end.
6. The term "Real God" indicates the True Source of all conditions, the True and Spiritual Divine Person, rather than any egoic (and, thus, false, or limited) presumptions about "God".
7. The word "conditional" (and is variants) is used throughout this book to indicate everything that depends on conditions—in other words, everything that is temporary and changing. The "Unconditional", in contrast, is the Divine, or That Which is Always Already the Case, because it is utterly free of dependence on conditions.
