The Apparently individual (or Separate) self Is Not Self-Existing.
The Apparently individual (or Separate) self Is Not Immortal.
The Apparently individual (or Separate) self Is Not a "spark" (or an Eternal fraction) Of Self-Radiant Divinity, and Somehow Complete (or Whole) In itself.
Only Real God 1 —The Inherently egoless Divine Person—Is Self-Existing, Immortal, Eternal, Non-Separate, Indivisible, Complete, Whole, and Self-Radiant.
The Apparently individual (or Separate) self Is Not inwardly (or in and of itself) Perfect, a "soul" (or A Perfect individual Consciousness), and Somehow Full Of Divine Qualities (Such As Inherent Happiness, Unconditional Love, Infinite Bliss, and Boundless Energy).
Only Real God—The Inherently egoless Divine Person—Is Perfect Consciousness (Non-Separate, Indivisible, Full Of, or Characterized By, The Qualities Of Inherent Happiness, Unconditional Love, Infinite Bliss, and Boundless Energy).
The Truth (That Sets The Heart Free) Is Not That the Apparently individual (or Separate) self (or ego-"l" 2 ) Is itself Immortal and Divine, or That some fraction or dimension of the Apparently individual (or Separate) self Is Immortal and Divine—but The Truth (That Sets The Heart Free) Is That There Is Only Real God (The Real, The Truth, or That Which Is Always Already The Case).
The Apparently individual (or Separate) self arises conditionally, and Yet it Always Already Inheres In Real God.
The Apparently individual (or Separate) self is the (Total, Complex) conditional body-mind (or Apparent psycho-physical personality).
The (Total, Complex) Apparently individual (or Separate) self is arising in three Primary (and Coincident) forms—the gross (or the physical), the subtle (or the etheric, the mental, and the deep psychic), and the causal (or the Root-essence of the conditional self). 3
The (Total, Complex) Apparently individual (or Separate) self is arising As An Apparent Modification (and Contraction) Of The Eternal Self-Radiance (or Inherent Spirit-"Brightness" 4 ) Of Real God and As An Apparent Cotraction Of The Transcendental (or Self-Existing) Consciousness That Is Real God.
The individual (or Separate) self (As Well As every other Apparent being and every other Apparent form or process Manifested Within The Cosmic Mandala 5 ) arises conditionally—but, Nevertheless, Always Already Inhering In Real God. Because Of This, no individual being or Apparent form is Ever Finally destroyed (or ended) In This Drama Of worlds. Every Apparent (or conditional) one and every Apparent (or conditional) thing is a process, a continuum of changes, that Persists Even Through and Beyond dissolution or death—Because Separation From The Transcendental (or Eternal), and Inherently Spiritual, and Inherently egoless, and Self-Evidently Divine Condition That Is Real God Is Not Possible.
However, mere continuation Is Not Happiness Itself (or The Inherent Realization Of Love-Bliss). Merely To Persist As an Apparently Separate form or process, Unconsciously Inhering In The Eternal (Real) God, Is Only To Contemplate limitation. The self-limited personality, Confined To the Apparent display of causes and effects, Is Stress-Bound To Seek Fulfillment and Release, Either By Exclusive Involvement In The Illusions Of inwardness (As If the conditional self, Dissociated From body and mind, Were itself The Immortal Love-Bliss) Or By Extroverted and Apparently Inclusive Indulgence Of body and mind In The Illusions Of conditional experience and conditional knowledge (As If The Mandala Of The conditionally Manifested Cosmos Were, Itself, The Immortal Love-Bliss).
The Immortal (and Self-Evidently Divine) Love-Bliss Is Realized Neither By Exclusive Identification With the inward self-position Nor By Apparently Inclusive Immersion In the conditional (or phenomenal) realms. To Realize The Self-Evidently Divine Self-Condition (and Source-Condition) That Is Love-Bliss Is Necessarily A Matter Of Transcending the (Entirely self-imposed, or self-Presumed) limits On Love-Bliss (Itself), To The Degree (Most Ultimately) Of Inherent, and Inherently Most Perfect, and Inherently egoless (and Inherently Most Perfectly egoless) Identification With Love-Bliss (Itself).
Therefore, The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is Never A Matter Of Identification With the subjective or the objective limitations of the conditional self-position (or ego-"l"). In The Right, True, Full, and Fully Devotional Practice Of The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam), Both The subjective and The objective Illusions Created By the self-Contraction Are Transcended—and This Through The Process Of Real (and Most Fundamental) self-Understanding, Which (By Means Of My Avatarically 7 Self-Transmitted Divine Grace) Becomes Ecstasy (or ego-Transcendence) In Real God (or ego-Transcending Communion With The One In Whom the conditional self and the conditional worlds Are arising, or Appearing To arise, As Apparent Modifications Of Itself), and Which (Most Ultimately, By Means Of My Avatarically Self-Transmitted Divine Grace) Realizes Divine Enstasy (or Awakening To Inherent, and Inherently Most Perfect, Identification With My Self-Evidently Divine, or Perfectly Subjective, Self-Condition, In Which every conditional, or phenomenal, appearance, including the body-mind-self, Always Already Inheres).
Real God Is Not The Creator. Therefore, The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is The Great Process Of Devotional self-Sacrifice In Real God (By Means Of ego-Surrendering, ego-Forgetting, and, Always More and More, ego-Transcending Feeling-Contemplation 8 Of My Real-God-Revealing Avatarically Born Bodily Human Divine Form, My Avatarically Self-Revealed Spiritual, and Always Divinely Blessing, Divine Presence, and My Avatarically Self-Revealed, and Very, and Transcendental, and Perfectly Subjective, and Inherently Spiritual, and Inherently egoless, and Inherently Perfect, and Self-Evidently Divine State). And, By Means Of This Great Process, the Total psycho-physical self Of My Devotee Is Surrendered To The Progressive Ordeal Of (Most Ultimately, Inherent, and Inherently Most Perfect) Divine Self-Realization.
Real God Is The Liberator.
Real God Is Not The Way In.
Real God Is The Way Out.
The Way Of Real God
Is Not The Way Of
self-Seeking,
self-Increase, and
self-Success.
The Way Of Real God
Is The Way Of self-Sacrifice
(or ego-Transcendence).
The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is The Great Process Of Transcending the objective (or conditionally externalized) point of view and the conditionally subjective (or conditionally internalized) point of view, By Means Of My Avatarically Self-Transmitted Divine Grace, Through Progressively ego-Surrendering, ego-Forgetting, and ego-Transcending Feeling-Contemplation Of (and Feeling-ldentification With) My Real-God-Revealing Avatarically-Born Bodily (Human) Divine Form, My Avatarically Self-Revealed Spiritual (and Always Divinely Blessing) Divine Presence, and My Avatarically Self-Revealed (and Very, and Transcendental, and Perfectly Subjective, and Inherently Spiritual, and Inherently egoless, and Inherently Perfect, and Self-Evidently Divine) State—Such That, Most Ultimately (By Means Of My Avatarically Self-Transmitted Divine Grace), the (Apparent) conditional body-mind and the (Apparent) conditional world Are "Viewed" From (and Divinely Self-Recognized In and As) The (Inherently Perfect) Divine Subject-Position (or The Self-Existing and Self-Radiant Self-State, or Self-Condition, Of Self-Evidently Divine Being, Itself). And The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Necessarily Proceeds By Stages Of Revelation, Corresponding To The First Six Stages Of Life 9 (While Perhaps, By Means Of My Avatarically Self-Transmitted Divine Grace, Effectively Bypassing Some), Until The Realization and The Demonstration Of The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Seventh Stage Of Life.
The Heart (Itself) Was Never "Created"—Nor Is There Ever any "creature" There. Therefore, The Way That Practices and (At Last) Most Perfectly Realizes and Is The Heart (Itself) Is The (Necessarily) Esoteric Way That Transcends The Illusions Of "Creator" and "Creation"—By Transcending the ego-"I".
The One and Only By-Me-Revealed and By-Me-Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is The Esoteric True Way (or True World-Religion) That (In The Truly Counter-egoic, and More and More Profoundly ego-Transcending, Manner) Practices and Realizes and (At Last, Most Perfectly) Is The Heart Itself Therefore, Even From Its Beginnings, The Only-By-Me Revealed and Given Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is Entirely Free Of ego-Based, ego-Serving, ego-Affirming, ego-Developing, and merely conventionally (or exoterically) religious (or "subject-object"-Based) views and presumptions.
The Divine Heart Is One and Only. Therefore, The One and Only By-Me-Revealed and By-Me-Given Esoteric Way Of The Heart (or Way Of Adidam) Is, Even From Its Beginnings, The Always and Immediately ego-Transcending Way Of One—and Not The Way Of "self' and "Other" (or Of Any "Two" At All).
Notes
* Avatar Adi Da uses a unique convention of capitalization here (and in some of His other Writings as well), capitalizing almost every word. This form of capitalization is (in and of itself) a Teaching device, by which Avatar Adi Da Communicates to the reader that everything that exists arises as a modification of the Divine Reality, and it is only our own commitment to the point of view of the ego that prevents us from living on the basis of this Truth.
1. The term "Real God" indicates the True Source of all conditions, the True and Spiritual Divine Person, rather than any egoic (and, thus, false, or limited) presumptions about God.
2. The ego-"I" is the fundamental activity of self-contraction, or the presumption of separate and separative existence.
3. Avatar Adi Da uses the word "gross" to mean "made up of material (or physical) elements". The gross (or physical) dimension is therefore associated with the physical body, and also with experience in the waking state.
The subtle is the dimension of energy and mind, associated with experience in the dreaming state. The word "subtle" indicates that this dimension is refined—in relation to the "gross" physical dimension.
The etheric is the dimension of life-energy, which functions through the human nervous system. Our bodies are surrounded and infused by this personal life-energy, which we feel as the play of emotions and life-force in the body.
The causal dimension is senior to and pervades both the gross and the subtle dimensions. It is the root of attention, or the essence of the separate and separative ego-"I". The causal dimension is associated with the right side of the heart, specifically with the sinoatrial node, or "pacemaker" (the psycho-physical source of the heartbeat). Its corresponding state of consciousness is the formless awareness of deep sleep.
4. By the word "Bright" (and its variations, such as "Brightness"), Avatar Adi Da refers to the eternally, infinitely, and inherently Self-Radiant Divine, Indivisible and Indestructible Light Itself.
5. The Sanskrit word mandala (literally, circle) is commonly used in the esoteric Spiritual traditions to describe the hierarchical levels of cosmic existence "Mandala" also denotes an artistic rendering of interior visions of the cosmos. Avatar Adi Da uses the phrase "Mandala of the Cosmos" (or "Cosmic Mandala") as a reference to the totality of the conditional cosmos.
6. Avatar Adi Da uses the phrase "Most Ultimate(ly) or "Most Perfect(ly)" in the sense of "Absolutely Ultimate(ly)" or "Absolutely Perfect(ly)", indicating a reference to the Divinely Enlightened stage of life.
7. The term "Avataric" or "Avatarically" indicates that Avatar Adi Da's human Incarnation is not merely the life of an ordinary man, but the utterly Divine "Descent" of Real God in human Form.
8. Avatar Adi Da's term for the essential devotional and meditative practice that all practitioners of the Way of Adidam engage at all times in relationship to Him. Feeling-Contemplation of Adi Da Samraj is Awakened by His Grace—through Darshan (or feeling-sighting) of His Divine Form, Presence, and State. It is then to be practiced under all conditions, and as the basis and epitome of all other practices in the Way of Adidam.
9. The entire Spiritual Process culminating in Divine Enlightenment has been exactly "mapped" by Avatar Adi Da, Who Describes It in terms of seven stages of life. In the total (or full and complete) practice of the Way of Adidam, the seven stages of life are, from first to last, a Process in Consciousness, Revealing (ultimately) that you are Consciousness, and not merely the body-mind.
The first three (or foundation) stages of life constitute the ordinary course of human adaptation—bodily, emotional, and mental growth. The fourth and fifth (or advanced) stages of life are charactenzed by the Awakening to Spirit, or the Spiritualizing of the body-mind.
In the sixth and seventh (or ultimate) stages of life Consciousness Itself is directly Realized, beyond identification with the body-mind. In the sixth stage of life, the Realizer Identifies with Consciousness (in profound states of meditation) by excluding all awareness of phenomena. Avatar Adi Da has Revealed that this was the highest form of Realization known in the religious and Spiritual traditions previous to His Appearance. But this Realization is incomplete. Even the necessity to turn away from the world in order to fully Enjoy Consciousness represents a contraction, a refusal of Reality in its totality. The seventh stage of life (or the Realization of "Open Eyes"), which is Revealed and Given only by Avatar Adi Da, transcends this last limit. No exclusion is necessary, because the world is Realized to be a mere modification of Consciousness, not separate (or "different") from Consciousness at all.
